Purpose

The Strategy Director, Brand will play a pivotal role in shaping the quality and direction of brand strategy at Invisible Dynamics. This is a senior strategic position responsible for leading brand transformation engagements, elevating our insight capabilities, and helping develop the next generation of proprietary strategic tools and platforms.

This role sits at the intersection of brand strategy, cultural intelligence, and commercial thinking. You will work closely with senior clients—CEOs, CMOs, and brand leaders—to diagnose brand challenges, define strategic direction, and translate ambition into rigorous, inspiring, and commercially grounded brand strategy.

Beyond client delivery, you will be a key contributor to Invisible Dynamics' strategic IP—helping shape how we codify our thinking, develop scalable methodologies, and build proprietary tools that extend our impact. You will also play an active role in mentoring and developing the brand strategy team, helping set the bar for craft, rigor, and imagination across the practice.

Essential Skills

You are a senior brand strategist with 8+ years of experience, a strong track record of leading complex brand engagements within a consulting or agency environment, and a clear point of view on what great brand strategy looks like. You combine analytical rigor with creative imagination—and you are as comfortable shaping proprietary frameworks as you are inspiring a client with a bold brand vision.

You are:

  • A proven leader of brand strategy engagements within a top-tier brand consultancy, with experience working across a range of categories and brand context.

  • Deep expert in brand strategy—fluent across identifying the opportunity, defining the brand foundations—including positioning, architecture, identity strategy—with the ability to define and defend a distinctive point of view.

  • Experienced leading client relationships at a senior level, with the confidence to challenge, advise, and guide CEOs, CMOs, and brand leaders.

  • A sophisticated insight practitioner, comfortable working across cultural, consumer, competitive, and category inputs to surface non-obvious opportunities and ground strategy in logic.

  • Excited by the intersection of brand strategy and business strategy—able to connect brand thinking to commercial outcomes, growth levers, and organizational realities.

  • Experienced contributing to or building strategic methodologies, frameworks, and IP within an agency or consultancy environment.

  • Comfortable bringing logic to ambiguity, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine interest in shaping what brand strategy can become—including through platforms, tools, and products.

  • A clear, compelling communicator and storyteller—able to move between rigorous strategic thinking and inspiring creative narrative, both in writing and in the room.

  • Visually and structurally fluent, with experience building and refining high-quality strategic decks. (Figma proficiency strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

Brand Strategy Leadership  

  • Lead high-impact brand strategy engagements across Invisible Dynamics' client portfolio, working directly with CEOs, CMOs, and senior brand leadership.

  • Shape and oversee the development of brand strategies that are rigorous, creatively inspired, and commercially grounded.

  • Act as a senior strategic partner to clients—guiding decision-making, challenging assumptions, and helping translate brand ambition into actionable direction.


Insight & Analysis

  • Lead the capture, synthesis, and interpretation of cultural, consumer, competitive, and category insight to ground brand strategy in evidence and logic.

  • Work across multiple data sources and platforms to inform strategic thinking, maintaining a platform-agnostic and critically discerning mindset.

  • Conduct and oversee stakeholder interviews, triangulating perspectives into coherent and defensible strategic conclusions.

  • Apply structured, logical thinking to ambiguous brand challenges, ensuring all recommendations are independently defensible.

  • Partner with analysts and research partners where deeper quantitative or primary research is required.


Strategic IP, Productization & Incubation

  • Play an active role in defining and evolving Invisible Dynamics' proprietary brand strategy IP, frameworks, and methodologies.

  • Contribute to the development of scalable strategic products and tools, including brand measurement platforms, insight tools, and future-facing strategic capabilities.

  • Help shape propositions that are strategically robust, commercially viable, and differentiated in market.

  • Contribute to go-to-market thinking and long-term growth strategy for ID's platforms and strategic products.


Storytelling & Presentation

  • Build and own high-quality strategic decks, ensuring ideas are communicated in a clear, lean, and compelling way.

  • Work confidently in Figma to structure, design, and refine strategic outputs.

  • Prepare and lead the presentation of strategic recommendations to senior clients, articulating complex thinking with confidence and clarity.


Practice & Team Leadership

  • Set the strategic bar for quality, rigor, and creative ambition across all brand strategy work.

  • Mentor and develop brand strategists, creating a culture of intellectual curiosity, craft, and commercial impact.

  • Contribute to defining ways of working, standards, and methodologies that help the brand strategy practice scale.


Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work in close partnership with the MD Strategy to shape the strategic direction and capability of the practice.

  • Collaborate with Creative, Marketing, Production, and Client Services to ensure brand strategy meaningfully informs everything we build and deliver.

  • Act as a connective thread between strategy, insight, and creative execution—ensuring rigour and inspiration travel together from brief to output.

Logistical Requirements

The Strategy Director, Brand will be based out of our Los Angeles office, with a commitment to in-person collaboration. Monday – Thursday required in office, optional Work-from-home Fridays. For candidates based in New York or London, working structure will be defined. The salary range for this role is $150,000-$180,000 annually (based on location and experience) with medical, dental, vision, life insurance and unlimited PTO.

Travel within the US and internationally may be required based on client and company needs. As a full-time employee, the role may involve working extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet client deadlines.
